Not channeling Lara Croft at Ta Prohm

Ta Prohm was nice, I think I actually like Preah Khan better though. Not sure if it was because of all the construction going on. They also had a lot of fenced off areas so you cant go up close & climb on the massive roots. It was still very cool. Paola thought it was so amazing it was worth visiting twice. There's so much rubble!

Highlights: Getting lost in the temple corridors. The massive tree roots look like they are waging a battle with the temples & are very much winning.
Cast of Characters: Me, Paola & our tuktuk driver
Logistics/ Links: Wiki on Ta Prohm. I highly advise wearing those Thai fisherman pants exploring SE Asia. Some temples don't allow inappropriate temple attire like shorts for ladies/ sleeveless shirts.
When: We went late February, 2012. It was getting pretty hot. I would be miserable bicycling around the whole expanse of the temple complex in the hot weather. The tuktuk drive was nice & breezy. Location: Ta Prohm, Siem Reap, Cambodia
Cost:  I paid $40 for the 3 day pass. The tuktuk hire for the day is $24. Paola & I split the cost. This is for the smaller loop. I think there's about 3 different itineraries you can do. The small loop, big loop & the farther out temples like Bantay Srei. If you're traveling alone, I've seen some folks just hire a motorbike/ driver for the day. It would be nice if the driver acted as a guide also but usually they just drive.
Trip Report: I really really enjoyed & appreciated Angkor Wat. I found it hard to appreciate the other temples because they're mostly just heaps of rubble. Ta Prohm, Preah Khan, Bantay Srei are the nicer ones. The temples are still worth visiting, I just think its a bit too overrated (gasp!). There's an insane number of people going through the place. You won't feel Lara Crofty because of the crowd. You can easily spend an hour or 2 walking around.
