Inexpensive places to stay in Italy

Como
Location: Menaggio Youth Hostel. Menaggio, Lake Como, (northern) Italy
Logistics/ Links: http://www.menaggiohostel.com/
Cost: http://www.lakecomohostel.com/rates.shtml
Trip Report: Recommended. They don't really have age restrictions. This place is nice. Its got excellent views too. The staff is really helpful. The only thing is the lower bunk bed does not have adequate head clearance (you'll bump your head because its too low). But its no biggie considering everything else about the facility. I think its also the only hostel in the area. Not too many choices for cheapskates like me.

Venice
Location: Venice Silk Road, Venice, Italy.
Logistics/ Links: http://www.silkroadhostel.com/
Cost: http://www.hostelbookers.com/hostels/italy/venice/78396/
Trip Report: Highly Recommended. This place is fabulous! It's not the cheapest there is but compared to most places in Venice, its a great value. You get this fantastic view of the river. There's breakfast included. Its got an excellent location. Staff is very helpful. Awesome place to stay. Book in advance.

I stayed at another place called Venice Gold Hostel. It's alright. Not enough ventilation in the room. No breakfast. The staff is really good though.

Cinque Terre
Location: Ostello 5terre Manarola, Cinque Terre, Italy
Logistics/ Links: http://www.hostel5terre.com/ENG/index.html
Cost: http://www.hostel5terre.com/ENG/prices.html
Trip Report: Recommended. I think this is the only hostel in all 5 towns (online at least). There are plenty of accommodation options though. I saw many, many signs advertising accommodation from the neighborhood homes. Just do some research. If you have no luck finding any, this place is fine. The only thing I did not like is the coins for the shower. That is such a pain in the butt. Manarola is a nice place to stay. The staff is helpful. Its a good place to stay.

Firenze
Location: Archi Rossi hostel, Firenze, Italy.
Logistics/ Links: http://www.hostelarchirossi.com/
Cost: http://www.hostelarchirossi.com/rooms/
Trip Report: Highly Recommended. Another one of those fantastic hostels. They have included a massive breakfast buffet! Soo good! They have a lot of freebies. The place is very clean. Helpful staff. Convenient facilities. Overall an excellent place to stay.

Lucca
Location: Leone di Sant' Anna, Lucca, Italy
Logistics/ Links: http://www.leonedisantanna.com/en/
Cost: http://www.hostelworld.com/hosteldetails.php/Leone-di-Sant-Anna/Lucca/12115
Trip Report: Recommended. I stayed at their basement dorm. I was the only person in the dorm. I don't really mind having my own private room though. The place was clean & comfortable. It was interesting sleeping in the cavernous basement.

Roma
Location: Foresteria Orsa di Maggiore, Trastevere, Roma, Italy
Logistics/ Links: http://www.foresteriaorsa.altervista.org/foresteria_uk.htm
Cost: see link above
Trip Report: Highly Recommended. Females only. I love this place!!! The only hostel where I did not have to leave for their cleaning time (no lock-out. All other hostels in Europe make you leave for a few hours while they clean the place). This place is awesome. Its very spacious. Staff is super helpful. Excellent location. So many things I love about it. Excellent place for women.

Amalfi Coast
Location: Beata Solitudo, Agerola (San Lazzaro), Amalfi coast area, Italy
Logistics/ Links: http://www.beatasolitudo.it/index_eng.htm
Cost: http://www.beatasolitudo.it/prezzieng.htm
Trip Report: Recommended. If you like lots of hiking (like 7 hours hike to get to Amalfi) & lots of quiet- this is the place for you. Its not at Amalfi really. Its in a small town called Agerola. I did enjoy walking around the small towns. You get to see a warmer, friendlier side of Italians. They're all nice & friendly, but even more so at less touristy spots.

The place is not recommended if you want to be where all the activity is. Agerola is about 3 hours bus travel from Napoli. Its 1 hour bus ride away from Amalfi & another hour from Amalfi to Positano. You cannot go directly to Positano from Agerola unless you have your own car. Needless to say, its quite far.

Amalfi seems to have an older crowd whereas Positano a slightly younger crowd. No beach in Amalfi. Positano has an ok beach (excellent crowd though).
